In a fire in an apartment complex on the Harry Koningsbergerstraat in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, someone died on Monday evening. This confirms a police spokesperson for ANP news agency Reporting from AT5. The victim’s body was found in one of the apartments in the flat. More about the victim is unknown.

The residents of the flat cannot go home for the time being, one of them says NRC. They were taken by bus to a football club next to the apartment complex. According to the resident there were dozens of firefighters.

Offense

The fire started on the third floor. How it could have arisen is still unclear. The police are investigating a possible criminal offense, a police spokesman told Het Parool. A spokesperson for the security region told AT5 that there were several hot spots. “That made it complicated to extinguish. A drone was used to investigate how this could best be tackled.”

According to the two Amsterdam media, five people were slightly injured, including two residents who inhaled smoke and three firefighters. One of the firefighters had to go to the hospital after he had become unwell, but makes up for it under circumstances, according to the safety region.
