Around 7:35 p.m., the police received a report of a stabbing on Coulombstraat in the North Holland town, about a 45-minute drive from Amsterdam, and subsequently cordoned off the area for a major action.
Police surrounded the building and held it at gunpoint. Specialized teams, such as the Special Interventions Service (DSI), and an air ambulance were also present. The building is also shielded from spectators with fences. Forensic research is now being conducted there. On Monday evening, the police could not yet say anything about what happened.
Car with flashing lights
A witness reports to the Dutch newspaper ‘De Telegraaf’ that he saw a car driving away from the building at high speed. The car would have had an orange flashing light and a ‘road traffic’ sign on it.
According to the same newspaper, two men approached the police on the spot. “I want to know if my son is unharmed,” said one of them. The son may have been in the building. The officer refuses to respond: “I understand that you are concerned, but I cannot tell you anything. The investigation is ongoing.” The two men then left the scene in a dark-colored BMW.
In addition to the fatal victim, two more people were seriously injured. It is not clear whether people have been arrested and who the victims are. The two injured people were taken to hospital.
After the incident, the building was monitored by officers with weapons drawn, because someone might still be inside. That campaign is now over and the building is empty.
