Second edition of an event with prestigious names among the winners and jury. Alex: “There is resignation and sadness for Italy’s absence at the World Cup. But now let’s try to be proactive.” Federica: “I had to fight against the injury, at the Games it was beautiful and complicated”
It is just the second edition. Yet the De Sanctis “Sport, Respect and Legality” Award is growing impressively. This is demonstrated by the location chosen, the Multifunctional Hall of the Presidency of the Council, in Rome. This is demonstrated by the winners, of absolute value not only from a sporting point of view, as well as the winners, which includes a long series of well-known names, from the president of the Lega Serie A Ezio Maria Simonelli to the president of Milan Paolo Scaroni. And this is demonstrated by the highly authoritative jury, which includes the minister Andrea Abodi, Gabriella Palmieri Sandulli, Gianni Letta, Marco Mezzaroma, Michele Uva, Giuseppe Chinè, Marco Tardelli, Flavio Siniscalchi, Chiara Palermo and Gianfranco Coppola. This is also demonstrated by the fact that, without warning, names of a certain importance appear in the public, such as Roberto Mancini and Claudio Lotito.

But let’s get to the awards. The Legend award went to Alessandro Del Piero, who said about the missed World Cup: “There is resignation and sadness. The third failure to qualify was almost a nightmare, but the sporting world has changed. We try to be proactive, it is obvious that there must be an impact from everyone to improve our situation and qualify for the next occasion. There are nations that have invested and that have believed in it. But I like to remember how, when Mancini won with the national team, as well as when it happened to mine in 2006 or when Tardelli won in ’82, our football was experiencing dramatic moments. Yet as Italians we recovered, we found that fire that we hope we won’t lack in the future.”

Federica Brignone, the queen of the Milan Cortina Games, was also awarded: “Mine was a serious injury that still leaves consequences today. I tried to roll up my sleeves and go back to a normal life, but the dream of being at the Olympics, which were held at home, was too big. I tried to make it even though it seemed at least unlikely, I had to fight, it was beautiful and complicated”.

The promoters of Calciosociale were also awarded with the “Curva dei Miracoli” project, for the paralympic athlete Chiara Mazzel and special mentions for Tommaso Fumagalli of Reggiana for his gesture of sportsmanship during last March’s match against Südtirol, Parma Calcio for an unusual and highly effective project for gender equality and Dan Europe, represented by the Finnish rescuer Patrik Gronqvist, involved in the dramatic recovery of the bodies of Italian divers in the Maldives. Gianni Letta closed the ceremony with a moving tribute to Alex Zanardi.
