Edwin de Roy van Zuydewijn appeals against the ruling of the Central Netherlands court that he is not allowed to inspect the script of the announced Videoland series Mabel & Margarita. De Roy van Zuydewijn announced this in a press statement on Wednesday.
The court denied his request on Wednesday to view the script of the series. According to the judge, granting that request would restrict the freedom of expression of RTL and Videoland in an ‘unacceptable way’.
The court did understand that De Roy van Zuydewijn wants to prevent any incorrect information about him from being made public, but according to the judge, these interests do not outweigh freedom of expression.
De Roy van Zuydewijn calls the ruling ‘downright disappointing’. According to him, his request for access is ‘far from an attempt to exercise censorship’.
“It is clear that the TV series aims to make big money on my back and on the basis of demonstrable untruths and nonsense. RTL/Videoland has done nothing at all to establish the truth, apply adversarial hearing and fairly separate fiction from facts,” says De Roy van Zuydewijn.
Mabel & Margarita
De Roy van Zuydewijn was married to Princess Margarita, a daughter of Princess Irene, from 2001 to 2006. The series Mabel & Margarita is a spin-off of the series Maxima and focuses on the lives of Margarita and Mabel Wisse Smit.
