In the Leyens shopping center, three wooden planters with benches have been placed through the municipality. During the Buurtbakkie on Wednesday, July 16, shopkeepers and residents came together in the shopping center for a cup of coffee and a chat.

In total, the municipality has placed three planters with perennials and ornamental grasses. Passers -by can take a seat on the benches to relax or eat an ice cream. Later in the year a fourth planter will be added.

Speed

According to local police officer Rob Doorneveld, the planters were first planned for the cycle path. “This is to remove the speed of cyclists, scooters and fatbikes through the shopping street,” he says. But it turned out that there was not enough room on the path for the bins. “Then the municipality could not help but place them along the stores on the sides.”

Double feeling

The shopkeepers and local police officer are happy with the arrival of a bit of fun in the shopping center. “After the departure of the flower shop, Zeeman and De Bakker, the atmosphere has changed somewhat here,” says local police officer Rob. “The bins were actually meant to stop rides, but that doesn’t work in this way. I hope the new planters and the shopping center stay tidy.”
