De La Soul’s early albums soon expand streaming services

On March 3, 2023, the early albums by the rap group De La Soul will be released on streaming platforms for the first time. De La Soul and publisher Reservoir Media announce this in unison.

The publisher had bought the Tommy Boy Records label in 2021, which owned the group’s master tapes. Now the date for the digital release is set. This affects the band’s early, very extensive catalogue, including the classics 3 FEET HIGH AND RISING and DE LA SOUL IS DEAD. Both of their albums, released since 2004, are already available.

As part of the acquisition, the preparation and publication of the De La Soul catalog had high priority. Especially since the band and Tommy Boy Records had already negotiated the release in 2019. However, it was canceled at the last minute. Problems were caused by the distribution of streaming income and omissions in sample clearing.

In addition to being available digitally, the six albums released between 1989 and 2001 will also be reissued physically.
