The game between Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord Rotterdam on Sunday (9/24/23) was canceled due to the repeated burning of pyrotechnics. After the game, the controversial sports director Sven Mislintat was fired.
The referee ended the game in accordance with league rules with the score 3-0 for champions Feyenoord after fans fired flares onto the field for the second time. The game, in which no visiting fans were present, could now be counted against Ajax or could be played to the end on a neutral pitch within a few days behind closed doors.
Feyenoord confidently in the lead
Santiago Gimenez (9th/18th minute) and Igor Paixao (37th) had confidently shot Feyenoord into the lead in “De Klassieker”. The first interruption occurred in the 44th minute after two flares landed in the penalty area of German Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther. After a break, the game continued according to the rules before three pyro-rockets landed in the same penalty area in the 55th minute, in which this time Ajax keeper Jay Gorter was standing.
The mayor and police were allowed to overrule the decision
The game ended automatically. The mayor and police would have been allowed to overrule this decision if they recognized it as a threat to public safety. However, since there were officially no Feyenoord supporters in the stadium, this was apparently not the case.
With just one point from their first five games, Ajax have made their worst start to the season since 1965. Hours after the low point against Feyenoord, sporting director Sven Mislintat was fired. The reason for this was the “lack of broad support within the organization” for the former Stuttgarter, it was said.
In addition to the sporting crisis, the affair is due to possible reasons Conflicts of interest
In addition to the sporting crisis, Mislintat was faced with a delicate affair. As director of Ajax, he handled the transfer of the former Stuttgart native Borna Sosa via the consulting agency “AKA Global GmbH”, which, like him, is involved in the company “Matchmetrics GmbH”.
Ajax had therefore begun investigations into a possible violation of corporate governance. Mislinat had not informed the club that “AKA Global” also held shares.
