De Dolfijn swimming pool is closed for a month due to major maintenance. The water has been pumped out of the pool in recent days and the bath is now empty.

“It’s a major renovation,” says Henk Koster of the municipality of Hoogeveen. “People have to paint again and we are going to coat and tackle the pumps. The control technique is also being renewed.”

According to Koster, it has to happen every five or six years like a house. “If you don’t do that you get cracks and cracks, and if you are in it with your swimwear, it can hurt and you get injuries.” The swimming pool also gets a considerable cleaning during this period, “so that everything looks neat again.”

The swimming pool will open again on September 22. It takes a week before the bath is full again and also a week before the water is back at the right temperature.

This may be the last time that major maintenance takes place at the swimming pool, because it is intended that Hoogeveen will receive a new indoor swimming pool in 2029.
