Deutsche Bahn is gradually releasing the new update to the DB Navigator app. Some fresh features are then integrated. At the same time, Next DB Navigator will be scrapped.
It has been rumored for a long time that Deutsche Bahn wants to update its app. And now the time has come. The update (version 24.1.0) is being rolled out for the DB Navigator app. However, it is not clear which devices will receive the innovations or whether all users can carry out the update at the same time.
Update for DB Navigator is coming
With this update, the Next DB Navigator app, which was released at the end of 2022 and acted as a kind of beta test, will also disappear. Deutsche Bahn writes on theirs websitethat the parallel operation of the two apps will soon end. A specific date is not mentioned, but it is said that the older versions of the DB Navigator app (23.08 and older) will probably no longer be supported from December 2023. Next DB Navigator could also disappear completely by the end of the year.

These functions are available in the new DB Navigator app
Anyone who has been using the Deutsche Bahn app for a long time will be familiar with the saver price function. It was also integrated into the updated version, but under the name “Bestpreis”. If you are looking for any train journey, you can set the “Show our best prices” slider and the app will ideally show you cheap offers for the desired route.
Furthermore, there will continue to be occupancy information so that you know in advance how full the train could be. You also still have the option of booking tickets via the app. There is also a digital travel companion. This will give you the most important information about your trip.
You can also use the app to find information about the car sequence on the day of travel and check in in advance. For example, if you missed your (connecting) journey or the train was simply late, you can search for alternatives in the app. You can also book a bike ride on long-distance trains using the train app.
Innovations in the DB app
Otherwise there are few functional innovations. As of the update, you can use the app in dark mode if you prefer darker backgrounds. The menu navigation is much clearer and more intuitive. You can now also buy tickets for dogs and, as already mentioned, for bicycles.
