On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the northern lights lit up the sky in brilliant shades of green and pink in the American state of Iowa. The colorful scene was captured by an eyewitness. The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are a spectacular natural phenomenon in which the sky lights up in different colors, often green or red. The phenomenon is usually only clearly visible in the polar regions (the ‘aurora zone’), but during intense solar activity it can also be observed at lower latitudes. It can also be seen in the Netherlands several times a year. Observation requires a clear, dark sky, far away from city lights.
