David Sylvian & Stephan Mathieu: “Wandertired” (Review & Stream)

The album lives up to its title. It’s a very weary echo of David Sylvian’s “Blemish,” but there’s a long, tedious corridor between the curiously experimental original and this arrangement. The musician Stephan Mathieu only uses a few raw instrumental tracks and transforms them into free-floating, very static sound spaces.

Why the 2013 album is now being re-released remains a mystery

Neither Sylvian’s singing nor any song structures can be found on “Wandermüde”. The contributions of Derek Bailey and Christian Fennesz, who set sophisticated accents on “Blemish”, are no longer audible or recognizable here either. Why the 2013 album is now being re-released remains a mystery.
