David Byrne shares his Christmas playlist – featuring The Pogues & Phoebe Bridgers

Byrne put together a playlist for the holidays. Also included: 100 gecs. Listen here.

David Byrne has revealed his favorite Christmas songs. Included: The Pogues, Phoebe Bridgers, LCD Soundsystem, 100 gecs and many more. In total, the playlist he curated consists of 19 tracks and invites you to an hour of musical Christmas feeling.

Right at the beginning of the playlist you can hear a song by David Byrne himself. “Fat Man’s Comin’” was released last year, although according to him it wasn’t exactly a Christmas song. In his opinion, Santa Claus’ visit, which he sings about in the piece, developed into “more of a secular consumer moment than a religious or spiritual matter,” he explained in 2022 when the track was released.

The piece “Fairytale of New York” by the Irish group The Pogues should also not be missing from Byrne’s playlist. Byrne held the band in high esteem and their singer, Shane MacGowan, who died on November 30th.
