David Bowie’s handwritten lyrics are up for auction

The handwritten lyrics to “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” and “Suffragette City” are available for purchase.

Two handwritten lyrics by David Bowie will be auctioned on November 28, 2023. The lines from 1972 belong to the album THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS. The Auction house Omega Auctionswhich is conducting the auction, estimates the value of the music-historical writings at around 58,000 to 115,000 euros.

The handwritten lyrics to “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” and “Suffragette City” are for sale. Both are on irregularly cut paper. On its official website, the auction house writes: “These texts were acquired by the current owner in the early 1980s and loaned to the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum) in 2013.” Another lyric page from Bowie’s hit “Starman” has already been auctioned off by Omega for the equivalent of 190,476 euros.

More auctions are coming up

In addition to David Bowie’s lyrics, other items from music history will also be auctioned. Among them is a notebook that belonged to Noel Gallagher. This booklet contains lyrics to several Oasis songs, such as “She’s Electric” and “Champagne Supernova”. The auction offers a wide range: guitars, amplifiers and scores from various musicians are also being auctioned. For example, Paul McCartney’s English book and Elvis Presley’s personal Bible with notes went under the hammer.
