Dave Grohl grills for 18 hours for those in need in Australia

On his day off during the Foo Fighters tour, the singer provided food for the homeless.

Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl spent his day off during his band’s current Australian tour on Friday (December 8) volunteering for The Big Umbrella Foundation in Melbourne. Specifically, that meant grilling for those in need and giving the food to the homeless. According to a post on The Big Umbrella’s Instagram, Grohl delivered an “epic American-style barbecue with all the trimmings.”

Dave Grohl smoked meat for 18 hours

The Instagram post continued: “It will be a day that ‘our friends on the street’ will never forget as they met a rock legend and one of the nicest guys on the planet who truly cares about people in need takes care. No words can fully capture the impact of this positive experience. Dave and his buddies spent 18 hours smoking 250 pounds of pork ribs, pork shoulders and brisket.”

The next morning they delivered the food to “MG’s Kitchen,” where they prepared potato rolls with pulled pork, coleslaw and pickles, smoked pork ribs and beef brisket. According to media reports, at Fed Square in Melbourne, where the food was distributed, a long queue formed in temperatures of 36 degrees because word had already gotten around that there would be grilled food for everyone. However, people didn’t know that the food would be handed out by Dave Grohl. “Dave, Nick and Nat worked tirelessly in the sweltering heat for over two hours serving 430 meals, posing for photos, signing everything people found. For example, paper plates and t-shirts. And they were also so modest. What a guy! What a day!” said “The Big Umbrella” on Instagram.
