Dave Grohl has done volunteer work for the charity Feed the Streets.

Dave Grohl apparently spent his 56th birthday supporting families in need amid the ongoing wildfire crisis in the greater Los Angeles area. In videos posted to Instagram on Tuesday (January 14) by Feed the Streets – an LA-based charity – the musician helps make homemade chili alongside other volunteers. A few hours later, the organization also said they were also packing dinners for evacuated families and firefighters.

On the same day the videos in the Feed the Streets story were published, Dave Grohl turned 56 years old. The Foo Fighters singer has often volunteered for the organization in the past. He sometimes hosted barbecues and was known to arrive with his own mobile equipment and then distribute his homemade brisket on site.

Fire in Los Angeles: Help is needed

About a week earlier, fires had broken out in the Pacific Palisades district – and there were further fires in other parts of the city. They destroyed countless buildings and forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate their homes. There were also numerous celebrities who had to abandon their million-dollar mansions to the flames. As the US broadcaster CNN reports, at least 25 people have died.

The city is now also engaged in clean-up operations of an unprecedented scale. Several industry events have been canceled or postponed as a result, including numerous concerts and pre-Grammys parties. As Billboard announced, all events planned for Grammy week in the region have been canceled. Organizers said: “Our condolences go out to the people of Los Angeles who are facing the reality of these devastating fires.”

“Many of our employees and community members are personally impacted, and our primary focus at this time is to use the resources available to us for the long-term recovery of the city we call home.” And other musicians are getting involved, too. Doja Cat partners with the American Red Cross to raise funds through merchandise. Music companies and several foundations have also organized emergency funds and resource pools for those affected – including Beyoncé’s BeyGood Foundation, Sony Music Group and Warner Music Group.
