Dave Gahan sings “Mother of Earth” in tribute to Jeffrey Lee Pierce (Video)

Dave Gahan continues to walk solo alongside Depeche Mode. Now again with the song “Mother of Earth”. With this, Gahan is contributing to The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project, an album project dedicated to the late singer-songwriter Jeffrey Lee Pierce. A video for the track is already available.

Dave Gahan and other musicians pay tribute to Jeffrey Lee Pierce

The American Jeffrey Lee Pierce originally wrote the song “Mother of Earth”, but was unable to complete it before his death in 1996. Now Gahan took on the task of completing the piece in the spirit of Pierce. “Mother of Earth” will be featured on THE TASK HAS OVERWHELMED US compilation, appearing in the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project series. For the project, different musicians join forces to interpret unfinished works from Pierce’s archives.

THE TASK HAS OVERWHELMED US is now the fourth edition of the project and numerous other musicians will be heard alongside Dave Gahan. These include Nick Cave, Warren Ellis and Debbie Harry von blonde. Cave and Harry already contributed the song “On the Other Side”. With “Mother of Earth” there is another taste of the new tribute to Jeffrey Lee Pierce, in which Gahan appears in a minimalist and acoustic way. Exactly what you would have expected from Pierce.

THE TASK HAS OVERWHELMED US will be available on CD, LP and digital on September 29th. Pre-orders are over Glitter House Records or bandcamp possible.
