Dave Gahan part of Chrissie Hynde’s new album with international guests

Chrissie Hynde, singer of the Pretenders, has announced details of a new album under the title “Chrissie Hynde & Pals – Duets Special”. The publication is planned for October 17 on Parlophone. The work comprises 13 duets with international artists, including Brandon Flowers, Debbie Harry, Dave Gahan, Cat Power, Alan Sparhawk, Shirley Manson, KD Lang and the later deceased Mark Lanegan.

First decoupling of the album with Rufus Wainwright

The first decoupling was the play “Always on My Mind” with Rufus Wainwright. According to Hynde, working with Wainwright goes back to a conversation in 2023. At that time she had a project with Jörn Weisbrodt, Wainwright’s husband, and spontaneously suggested to start a project with Rufus together. Within a short time she noted ten possible titles, whereupon Wainwright promised.

Catchy melodies

The album emerged from this spontaneous idea and, according to the announcement, unites different musical manuscripts in reduced arrangements. The pieces should be characterized primarily by catchy melodies. Hynde has already worked with some of the musicians involved in the past, for example at concerts or tribute appearances. So she shared the stage with Brandon Flowers in London in 2015 and performed with Dave Gahan at a memorial event for Mark Lanegan.

Hynde also works as a talented painter

In addition to her music, Hynde is also artistically active. Her painting has been exhibited in cities such as London, New York and Edinburgh in recent years and, among other things, adorned the cover of her album “Valve Bone Woe” published in 2019. The album is the first major joint project under the name “Chrissie Hynde & Pals” and will appear this year instead of a new Pretenders album.
