Exclamation mark to the competition. Darmstadt wins against Fürth and stays on the heels of the top duo of the 2nd league, Paderborn and Schalke.
Important victory for Darmstadt 98 in the fight for promotion to the Bundesliga. In the top game of the 2nd league, Darmstadt managed a 4-2 win against Greuther Fürth in a wild game. Fraser Hornby (11th) gave the “Lilien” an early lead, and Fürth initially turned the game around with a brace from Noel Futkeu (38th/52nd). Then, however, Isac Lidberg (58th), Fraser Hornby again (63rd) and Merveille Papela (78th) scored for the Darmstadt team – and in the end they achieved a clear victory.
Darmstadt remains unbeaten for the third league game in a row and jumps to third place in the table. Fürth, on the other hand, is not making any progress and falls back to 15th place in the second division.
Darmstadt started offensively, quickly put the guests under pressure and rewarded themselves early through Hornby. Shortly afterwards, the game had to be interrupted for a few minutes because fans had ignited pyrotechnics and the smoke caused obstructed the view in the stadium at the Böllenfalltor. After the break, the Fürth team increasingly looked for a way forward, and after a foul by Kai Klefisch on Felix Klaus, Max Burda pointed to the point. Futkeu took advantage of the opportunity from eleven meters.
In the second round, events came to a head. Futkeu’s second goal was countered by Lidberg and Hornby again. With the lead behind them, Darmstadt stayed on the accelerator and Papela continued to increase the result.
