Darmstadt 98 in second place with Torgala – Aue relegated

2nd Bundesliga

Darmstadt 98 has put itself in a very good position in the promotion race with a furious first half. Opponent Aue was hopelessly overwhelmed – and is now the second relegated team of the season.

With a 6-0 (4-0) win over Erzgebirge Aue on Saturday evening, Darmstadt 98 jumped past HSV and Werder Bremen to second place in the table – and now have promotion to the Bundesliga in their own hands. Opponent Aue, on the other hand, has to go into the second division. The gap to relegation place 16, which Dynamo Dresden will occupy until the end of the season, is eight points with only two games left.

Luca Pfeiffer, Tim Skarke and Braydon Manu (16th minute, 18th, 19th) made the decision within four minutes. At the latest with Skarke’s second goal shortly before the break (39th), it was clear that Aue would not take any points at the Böllenfalltor this Saturday. Mathias Honsak (74th) and Tobias Kempe (90th) ensured a higher victory in the second round.

Darmstadt can now make the return to the top flight with two wins (first in Düsseldorf, then at home against Paderborn). The Lilies last played in the Bundesliga in 2016/2017 and rose to 18th in the table. but without a chance.

HSV with a realistic chance of promotion

HSV had already underpinned its promotion ambitions with a 4-0 win in Ingolstadt on Saturday afternoon. The Hamburgers now meet Hannover 96 (at home) and Hansa Rostock in the last two games of the season.

On Friday, Werder Bremen lost 3-2 to Holstein Kiel despite a 2-0 lead, while Schalke 04 bagged a 2-1 win at SV Sandhausen in injury time – and now FC St. Pauli at home next week receives.

Meanwhile, the Kiezkicker suffered another setback in the promotion race on Friday. At home against 1. FC Nürnberg, coach Timo Schultz’s team only conceded the 1-1 in injury time – and are now under massive pressure on Schalke.
