Dark circles, peeling is a solution to erase them

QWhen we talk about the eye contour, wrinkles and lines often take second place to dark circles, a beauty flaw perceived as more “annoying” to see in the mirror. Aesthetic medicine offers a particular type of superficial chemical peel, which works by making shadows less evident. Let’s find out with an expert what the procedure consists of.

Rings under the eyes? There is a specific peeling

The peeling for the eye contour is developed for erase halos around the eyesbut not only: “It serves both to improve dark circles and hyper-pigmentation, both a reduce wrinkles on both the upper and lower eyelids, improve the skin texture making it smoother and more compact, and restore brightness » explains Giulietta Proserpio, specialist in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine Forma Clinic Milan.

How dark circle peeling works

«This procedure is a particular type of specific superficial chemical peel, which consists in the application of exfoliating substances, and promoters of cell regeneration, included in differentiated concentrations suitable for such a delicate areaand which act at different levels to improve the condition of the skin».

The ingredients work in synergy. “Stands out among all thelactic acidwhich frees from thickening and stimulates the formation of hyaluronic acid with an effect of both hydration and greater skin tonicity», specifies the expert.

«The other molecules inserted in the solution are theazelaic acid de-pigmenting; L’phytic acid which acts on the production of melanin, thesalicylic acid stimulating skin regeneration, the resorcinol uniforming and thecitric acid antioxidant and exfoliating».

How the session takes place

The execution of the procedure requires 15/20 minutesand always begins with cleaning, performed by dabbing a sterile gauze soaked in detergent.

«The eye contour peeling solution is gently distributed with a cotton swab, which is first passed on the sides, then on the lower eyelid and then on the upper one», explains Giulietta Proserpio. «After a few minutes of exposure, the chemical exfoliant is neutralized with a specific preparation by means of a sterile gauze which removes any residue”.

“Usually 4-6 sessions are recommended, at least 14 days apart from each other. It is then possible to carry out maintenance sessions during the course of the year to maintain the result achieved ».

Potentially all dark circles benefit from the treatment, but there are some contraindications. “It’s good to know that the more a dark circle is marked, and present for some time, the less it will respond to treatment. It may therefore not dissolve completely, but overall the treatment leads to an improvement in the area, making the skin more compact and luminous, while still giving freshness to the gaze ».

What to do after eye contour peeling

«In the days following the treatment, a reddening of the area could persist and areas of desquamation could appear, albeit very limited», explains Giulietta Proserpio.

Cosmetic care at home is important. It’s important use a sunscreen because the peeling around the eyes is photosensitizing, and it is always good to keep the area hydrated with a good eye contour with a soothing, emollient and antioxidant effect ».
