The death of snowboarder Sophie Hediger became known at Christmas. Your friend and ice hockey player Dario Wüthrich played his first game after the announcement.

It was probably the hardest game of Dario Wüthrich’s career. Before the ice hockey game between his club HC Ambrì-Piotta against the SC Langnau Tigers (1:2), there was a minute’s silence for his dead girlfriend Sophie Hediger. On Christmas morning it was announced that the 26-year-old snowboarder died in an avalanche accident (read more about the accident here).

Before Wüthrich’s game, a black and white photo of the 2022 Olympic participant was thrown onto a screen and it remained quiet in the arena for a minute. Wüthrich struggled with his emotions. This is shown by a video from the Swiss “Blick”. The 25-year-old kept exhaling for a long time and had to hold back his tears.

Fans also supported him with a banner. Wüthrich could read that the supporters were “at your side”. They added: “You can do it, Dario.” Ambri had previously issued a report on behalf of Wüthrich. In it, the ice hockey player said: “We are convinced that Sophie would have wanted me to give everything for Ambri.”

When Hediger died, Walter Reusser, CEO Sport of Swiss-Ski, said: “For the Swiss-Ski family, a dark shadow has fallen over the Christmas days with the tragic death of Sophie Hediger. We are immeasurably sad. We become Sophie keep an honorable memory.”
