Dare to be more pragmatic when expanding the A100

More creativity and objectivity in the discussion about the expansion of the A100 would be more effective, says BZ editor Andreas Vollbrechtshausen

The tug of war about the further construction of the city highway. A comment from BZ editor Andreas Vollbrechtshausen.

The expansion of the A 100 splits the political camps. The CDU is in favor, but the Greens, Left and SPD are now trying everything to torpedo the 17th construction phase up to Ostkreuz.

They act quite slyly: They plan the Elsenbrücke without consulting the federal government, which is responsible for the motorways.

The further construction could certainly fit in with the ideas of a smart and necessary mobility turnaround. After all, if intelligent guidance systems bundle traffic on the city freeway or major thoroughfares, motorized traffic could be banned from the neighborhoods at the same time.

Just as it is now being gradually approached in the Bergmannkiez: one-way streets, bollards, through blocks. That could work.

However, it should also be taken into account that the majority of Berliners are in favor of the further construction of the city ring road.

A bit more pragmatism would certainly be more effective in this issue than the ideological wrangling.
