Now that Marieke Elsinga (36) has stopped RTL Boulevard and Vivienne van den Assem (38) is almost on maternity leave, Daphne Bunskoek (48) is being dug up again. “I was asked two months ago. When a lot of women got pregnant here. They wanted someone who was close to menopause. That seemed safe to her,” she says on Radio 538.

Daphne back again

Jelte van der Goot, sidekick on Radio 538, is surprised. “You left there once, didn’t you – I don’t mean slamming doors because you don’t want anything to do with them anymore – but because you didn’t like the gossiping, did you?”

Daphne agrees, but now she sees it differently. “Well, that was kind of the time when we started with everyone filming each other on the street and stuff. I didn’t like that at the time, but it was also just a matter of doing something every day for three years and thinking: ah, I also like to try other things.”

Drawing and painting

All those other things didn’t work, so Daphne returns to Boulevard. “I’ve done a lot of other things and I’m still doing things that I like too – drawing, painting, writing – but when they called me I actually really liked it again.”

What is she up to now then? “I’ve illustrated a children’s book and I’m working on my own book about nineteenth-century female explorers. I was all about that sort of thing.”

Eddie and Bridget

Daphne thinks it would be great to get started with the current Boulevard team. “I started with Eddy at TV Oost and then Bridget at TMF. It’s also a bit like coming home, actually.”

Is she nervous? “Yes, a little. It is a bit of a day when you think: where should I park, where should I sit and where are my clothes? It’s one of those days when everything has to land. I’m not even talking about the content of the program yet.”

Black out

It is to be hoped for Daphne that her nerves are not accompanied by a blackout. “I think it will be just fine. I’m just going to rehearse and then I’m going to see. I am a bit nervous.”
