RRome, May 15th. – The Italian publishing market is going through a phase of profound transformation that reflects the cultural contradictions of our time. While over 15 million Italians have not read a single book in 2025 and the sector records a decline of 3.6% he value in the first four months of the year, paradoxically emerges a renewed search for contents that can respond to contemporary concerns.
Daniele Vignali and his “Senseless Tales”
It is in this context that the return to writing of Daniele Vignaliwho after long years of creative silence decided to take up the pen again to face through the philosophical narrative the contradictions of contemporary man. Vignali’s decision to return to writing was born from what he himself defines as “an existential void”.
«At the age of 50 I returned to myself through a work of introspection and self-analysis», explains Vignali, «and I understood that what I missed most was the possibility of writing not for others, but for myself, without mediation or compromise». This creative urgency materialized first in Ontology of educationan essay published with Armando Editore that proposes a radical and corrosive criticism of the Italian training system, and now in Senseless Storiesa work of philosophical fiction coming out in May that represents a practically unpublished literary experiment in the Italian panorama.
Philosophy becomes narrative to find oneself
Vignali’s new work, Senseless Storiesrepresents an ambitious attempt to bring philosophical reflection to a wider audience through narrative, staging the human condition in its most authentic disillusionment. «The story serves to disguise, to dress up philosophical speculation», states the author, describing a work that moves in what he defines skeptical neo-existentialism. The five stories that make up the book address universal themes such as identity, the meaning of existence and the relationship with otherness through surreal atmospheres and symbolic characters.
From the clown who can no longer laugh to the philosopher accompanied by a prostitute, the metaphorical journey in search of meaning between provocative, visionary and deliberately destabilizing narrativesrejects any imposed or presupposed meaning and invites the reader to get lost. In this dreamlike journey, the reader is called to walk alongside the characters, discovering that, if a meaning exists, it is not a destination, but the journey itself: a painful search and, if honest, never definitive.
Daniele Vignali and the confrontation with the contradictions of our time
«I have lived too many years crushed by a suffocating reality principleabsorbed by institutional and bureaucratic tasks”, admits the author, “but the long silence in which I entrenched myself was not an escape, but rather a gestation”. Vignali’s creative path, which required more two years of intense work conducted mainly at night and at the first light of dawn so as not to interfere with professional commitments, testifies to the determination of those who feel the urgency of contributing to the contemporary cultural and philosophical debate.
His stories, populated by characters like the ontological patient interned in a mental hospital with the diagnosis of moral madness or the writer surrounded by “a vulgar and indifferent humanity”, offer a critical and disturbing reading of the contemporary human condition. At a time when the education system is in crisis and reading is losing ground, the proposal of a narrative that unites philosophical reflection and story it could represent a way to reconnect critical thinking with a wider audience. Senseless Stories presents itself as a work that does not offer easy consolations but invites us to deal with them contradictions of our timeproposing what the author defines as a “deeply disturbing” but necessary vision to understand the complexity of reality.
