“I think we all know someone in this advice and also in the stands who had an accident or even died on the Zevenhuisterweg.” With those words, councilor Astrid Westra (CDA) opens her argument in the municipal council of Noordenveld.

The figures do not lie, in the last ten years on the road between New Roden, Roden and Zevenhuizen (Gr.) More than thirty accidents have taken place, several of which with a deadly outcome.

Last night there was talk about the redesign of the road in the Noordenveld city council. According to alderman Robert Meijer (VVD), it is racing to make the road safer before the end of the year. Next week the council will definitely vote on the plans, the mood seems to be only a formality.

The road is tackled in different ways. Among other things, the speed within built -up areas is changed to 30 kilometers per hour, traffic plateaus (speed bumps, but longer) are coming and three trees are being cut.

The trees that will be cut down have already been damaged by car accidents and have a reduced life expectancy. In addition, they are so dangerously close to the road that they provide unsafe situations. New trees are coming back to a different place.

All in all, making the road safe will cost 365,000 euros.
