D’Angelo and Jay-Z release nine-minute single “I Want You Forever”

The duo releases their joint song on the soundtrack to “The Book of Clarence”.

It’s been almost 10 years since D’Angelo released his last album BLACK MESSIAH and about five since he was last featured on a new single. And Jay-Z has also held back his musical output in recent years. But now the two legends teamed up for the song “I Want You Forever”.

Two titans among themselves

A few days before the biblical comedy-drama “The Book of Clarence” is shown in US cinemas on January 12th, the soundtrack to the work, “I Want You Forever”, was released. A smooth jam in which the voice of R&B icon D’Angelo nestles against the drums of Andre “Dre” Harris. At the same time, the epic-sounding melody is rounded off by complex harmonies. Both D’Angelo and Jay-Z are taking a more relaxed approach to their performances. So it’s not a lyrically dense track, but a relaxed, almost soulful song. Here the instrumental is more in the foreground, while the voices underline it.

The song was produced, written and co-arranged by Jeymes Samuel, who is also the writer and director of The Book of Clarence. Since 2010, Samuel and Jay-Z have been working together on various projects that were not just musical in nature. The US rapper is also a producer of the film. “The Book of Clarence” is the story of Clarence, who attempts to exploit the notoriety of the Messiah to improve his own life and that of his family. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas in Germany from February 22nd.
