Dance World Cup: Green-Gold Club Bremen fights its way to the World Cup title

As of: December 18, 2023 8:56 p.m

The 13th title at the Dance World Championships was anything but a sure-fire success for the Bremen Latin information group. Many were sick, but their mental strength made the difference.

This time it was missing, the so-called “kiss-and-cry area”. That place away from the dance floor where the leading Latin band fears and waits to see whether another competitor might yet overtake them and push them off their throne. And it was the green and gold club that now led in this World Cup final.

But the impatient waiting that day took place behind the scenes in Hong Kong’s compact “Queen Elizabeth Stadium Arena” in front of a screen. Fearful minutes as to whether the Mongolian formation Moon Dance, who became runners-up in the world championships last year, could still pose a threat to Bremen.

Steinmann: “What an incredible performance”

She couldn’t do it and finally everything fell away from the dancers, as well as from coach Roberto Albanese. They were overjoyed in each other’s arms. The 13th world title was actually achieved. But it was an incredible feat of strength. “What an incredible performance by the team,” praised GGC chairman Jens Steinmann.

Because it wasn’t just the tension that had just left them. For many it was pure exhaustion; several of the Bremen team were plagued by infections and illnesses. Tabea Horstmann had it worst. “We didn’t know until the preliminary round whether she would even last through the three rounds,” Albanese reported at buten un within: “But she did great. Really, hats off to her!”

Ordeal instead of an adventure trip

This world title was one of will. “As long as your head stays strong, you can do anything,” said Tabea Horstmann. As one of the most experienced dancers in the team, she pulled the younger ones along with her mental strength despite her illness. This trip to Hong Kong was not the adventure trip we had hoped for, but rather a real torture.

First there were the problems with the smaller dance floor, then there was the jet lag and then the illnesses. “It was a very, very difficult tournament,” emphasized Albanese. He himself was also noticeably exhausted after these exhausting days.

Albanese: “I didn’t like the mistake in the final”

His new choreography “Freedom and Peace” also passed the international baptism of fire with flying colors and was awarded a very good 36.20 points. But the perfectionist Albanese was still not completely satisfied. In the finale, a dancer made a mistake during a pirouette.

For me, the team danced the best round in the second round. We made a mistake in the final that I didn’t like at all. I don’t know that from us in the final. I would have liked us to have been a little better in the final.

Green-gold withstood the pressure once again

However, the error was not significant. Simply because Green-Gold danced by far the most difficult choreography in the field. And because the judges in Hong Kong placed the overall package of formations in the foreground. And that was simply the best for Bremen.

And what was crucial was that Bremen had once again withstood the immense pressure and defended their title at the World Cup. But they probably hadn’t found it as difficult as this time for a long time. But there are many young dancers there for whom it was their first World Cup.

Every dancer on this team now realizes what it means to dance on the GGC-A team and what it means to perform flawlessly and what pressure they are exposed to. You can’t teach people that. A World Cup like this is the greatest experience and at the same time the greatest lesson.
