As part of a worldwide campaign, numerous children, women and men demonstrated against violence against women and girls in Berlin on Tuesday evening.
According to dpa, hundreds of people took part in the “One Billion Rising” campaign at the Brandenburg Gate. According to the organizer, 2500 people were there.
Federal Women’s Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) supported the action on site. Dance demonstrations on the subject were also planned in other cities in Germany, such as Potsdam.

“The fight against violence against women requires joint, solidary action to make this violence visible, to give those affected a voice and to strengthen their rights,” said Senator for Equal Opportunities Ulrike Gote (Greens) in the run-up to the demonstration.
According to a UN statistic, every third woman is a victim of violence at some point in her life.
“Not only visible traces of the violence remain, but also the injuries to the soul, the feeling of sitting on a powder keg and living in constant fear as well as the processing of traumatic experiences that shape the lives of women,” said Brandenburg’s Minister for Women Ursula Nonnemacher ( Green) in the run-up to the action.
