FC Volendam seemed to lose for the third time in a week tonight, but deep in injury time it was still equal. Damon Mirani made it 1-1 in the 95th minute. The number two of the first division had fallen behind ADO Den Haag fifteen minutes earlier.
FC Volendam, which saw club top scorer Robert Mühren drop out with illness during the warm-up, played an unspectacular first half. Wim Jonk’s team seemed to have learned from the two zeperds against Excelsior (2-5) and FC Emmen (4-1)because in both games the Volendam team conceded four goals in the first company.
Match comes to life after halftime
Despite this, Volendam was unable to shoot on target before half-time. Walid Ould-Chikh fired on ADO’s goal once, but his shot went over. On the other hand, the residents of The Hague were barely dangerous. After the break, Het Nieuwe Oranje came out of the dressing room well. The first real chance was for Daryl van Mieghem. He came through over the right side and shot the ball through an ADO defender against the post.
The home team also came out of its shell more and fired on Filip Stankovic’s goal a few times. Attackers Samy Bourard and Sem Steijn shot just wide and Amar Catic hit the outside of the post.
Mirani brushes away a goal
The ball went in ten minutes before the end. In the crowds, Bourard was released, allowing him to shoot from the edge of the penalty area. With inside foot, the Belgian outwitted Stankovic: 1-0. This was followed by a small final offensive, but that did not lead to great opportunities for FC Volendam. Verheijdt hit the post on behalf of ADO Den Haag.
The visitors’ ultimate attempt to get one more point out of the fire was successful. Mirani headed in from close to 1-1 in the last seconds of injury time. He got the ball ready from substitute Mike Eerdhuijzen. The competition also drew, so that number two FC Volendam still has five points more than number three Excelsior. Leader FC Emmen will play against VVV-Venlo tomorrow.
