During the municipal council, Coens emphasized the importance of landscape fit:
“We recognize the need to become energy independent of foreign suppliers, but this should not be at the expense of our rural environment. The proposed turbine is exceptionally large and would turn the Waterpolder into an industrial zone. Moreover, residents of Den Hoorn are already confronted with heavy works on the N49. Additional foundation works would only increase the pressure on the area.”

According to the mayor, surrounding municipalities would also feel the impact of the project. The city council fears that the arrival of such a turbine will open the door for more wind turbines along the N49, which would further affect the character of the landscape.
