“We focus extra on structurally maintaining our waterways and other infrastructure,” emphasizes the Flemish minister for mobility, public works, ports and Sport Annick de Ridder. “Structurally improving the banks in the Westhoek must increase and guarantee the safety of the residents and the companies, including many farms.”
“Investing in water management is an important part of the provincial policy,” says deputy Bart Nayaert of the province of West Flanders. “Even in the Westhoek there is a need to be able to drain water safely but also to be able to keep water in dry periods so that drinking water remains available for cattle and crops can be stored sufficiently with water from the neighborhood on time.”
