The damage caused by storm Floriane is not too bad, the various safety regions in Brabant said on Monday evening. “It has mainly been limited to fallen trees that have caused a nuisance,” says a spokesperson for the Central and West Brabant region.

“We have had some reports, but fortunately nothing serious has happened,” says the spokesperson for the Brabant-North Safety Region. “The reports we received were mainly fallen trees, broken branches and things blown off facades. The most serious was a roof that was blown off a house in Oss.”

“It wasn’t too bad in our region,” says the spokesperson for Brabant-Zuidoost. “We have received reports that are typical for a storm with these wind speeds, so many trees and sun canopies blown over. If it is serious, we use ‘local handling’ to relieve control rooms. Assistance is then provided directly through local units. We didn’t do that because it wasn’t necessary.”

Nuisance caused by fallen trees occurred in Geldrop, among other places, where a tree fell on three parked cars. Fewer trains ran between Eindhoven and Helmond due to a tree that fell on the track. In Moergestel a tree fell on a moving car. The driver escaped unscathed. In Breda a tree blew over and fell straight on a fence. In Vught, a monumental tree in the Lievevrouwepark blew down.

In Helmond Sport’s new stadium, the GS Staalwerken Stadium, some roof panels came loose due to the strong wind. Employees in the building were sent home as a precaution. The stadium was only completed a few months ago.
