The changeable weather did not prevent the more than 16,000 participants from taking part in the Dam tot Dam walking tour. Participants could choose to walk 12, 20, 27 or even 42 kilometers. The tour started this morning on Dam Square in Amsterdam and ended in the center of Zaandam.

The 18th edition of the walking tour had a rainy start. “It’s like packing a raincoat and unpacking a raincoat every time,” said one participant.

The walking tour is the unknown brother of the more famous Dam tot Damloop that takes place on Sunday. The route passes all kinds of sights, such as the chapel in Durgerdam and the Czaar Peterhuisje in Zaandam. At various points along the route, residents stood with a table with coffee, tea and a snack for the walkers.

The last finish moment was at 5 pm. Those who completed the entire 42-kilometre journey therefore had to start at 6.30 am this morning. “I have greased my feet well, I am wearing my good hiking socks and shoes,” says a participant of the 42 kilometers.

Tomorrow is the Dam tot Damloop for runners. Then there will be a total of such 40,000 people run from Amsterdam to Zaandam.
