Dalle: “Alcohol ban on youth camps will be enforced in a reasonable way” | Inland

“The alcohol ban on youth camps in some municipalities in Luxembourg will be enforced in a reasonable manner.” That is what Flemish Minister of Youth Benjamin Dalle says after a consultation.

Dalle sat this afternoon with the other Youth Ministers of the country, the Luxembourg governor and the mayors of Chiny, Florenville and Bouillon. They discussed, among other things, the alcohol ban that four Walloon municipalities are issuing this summer for youth camps. Andenne also issued a similar ban. Dalle previously called it a disproportionate measure.

“The ban will not be revoked, but the mayors do want to continue the dialogue,” said the minister. “They want to enforce the ban in a reasonable way, meaning they will only check if excesses occur.”

In 2020, there were 25 alcohol-related incidents at 1,135 camps in the province of Luxembourg. Last year there were 14 incidents in 1,084 camps. The country’s three communities will also work on a common camp charter.

No more corona rules

Dalle officially kicked off the camp season in Rillaar, a sub-municipality of Aarschot. For the first time in two years, one million Flemish and Brussels young people will no longer be subject to corona rules at those summer camps. “We notice that youth work is very popular: the urge to camp is great. I am convinced that we will have a great youth work summer,” said Dalle.

“In recent weeks, some people have misrepresented our youth work. In the discussion about alcohol at camp, caricatures were often hung. Nothing could be further from the truth: thousands of young people and volunteers commit themselves to provide each other with a very strong offer. We can only be very proud of what they have achieved with this,” concluded Dalle.
