Daft Punk announces “drumless” version of RANDOM ACCESS MEMORIES

The “Drumless Edition” of the 2013 album will be released on November 17th.

Daft Punk are celebrating the tenth anniversary of their successful album RANDOM ACCESS MEMORIES this year. To mark this occasion, the electronic duo will release a new version of the record on November 17th. This time the new edition has no drums at all. The musicians are already providing a foretaste with the “Drumless Edition” of the song “Within”, which was released on Thursday (September 28th). The focus is particularly on the piano playing of the Canadian pianist Chilly Gonzales.

RANDOM ACCESS MEMORIES was released in 2013 and enjoyed enormous success shortly after its release. The record, which includes songs like “Get Lucky” with Pharrell Williams, not only landed at number one on the Billboard 200 charts – it also stayed on the list for a full 56 weeks. In 2014, the album won a Grammy for Album of the Year.

An expanded “10th Anniversary Edition” of the work was published in May 2023 to mark the anniversary celebrations. The version includes nine additional tracks, including unreleased demos and studio outtakes. Like its predecessor, the new edition of the record also reached first place among dance/electronic albums this year. The video series “Memory Tapes” was also created, in which contributors to the record such as Julian Casablancas, Chilly Gonzales, DJ Falcon and Todd Edwards talk about the making of the album. Further episodes are currently being created with Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams and Chris Caswell.
