The numbers first of all. They smile first of all at the whole Renault groupwhich sold 1,173,762 cars in the EU last year, with growth of 1.9% compared to 2023. In December it even implemented a sensational overtaking on Stellantiswhich registered 111,482 cars in the month against the 120,276 of the group led by Luca de Meo. In this success, however, we find a second one, that of the brand Dacia with its 538,850 cars registered in 2024 compared to 519,448 in 2023. It was no small feat to grow while resisting the rampant competition from Chinese brands, which now play their most important game precisely in the segment of petrol cars based on value for money. Here other manufacturers are affected, but Dacia is already preparing further countermoves.

Super Sandero operation

Nice but also very careful Denis Le Vot in anticipating the many new things to come. The CEO of Dacia is experiencing the commercial launch of the new Bigster, therefore the second model after Joggers to bring the brand into the medium-sized car segment segment Cthe true heart of the European market. However, a further piece is needed to the puzzle, and Denis Le Vot is the first not to hide it: “Dacia is moving towards electric together with the entire Renault group, but it is a fact that in the C segment the offer of motor vehicles thermal is increasingly lower as time passes. It is an opportunity that we must instead take advantage of, and this is why you will see another Dacia model occupying these spaces.” His words, collected on the occasion of the recent Brussels exhibition, however, take on a more concrete meaning as we can only now look at the ranking of best-selling cars in 2024 in the Union. According to data processed by Dataforce experts for the newspaper AutomotiveNewsthat’s right Dacia Sandero to forcefully take the top spot, with 270,111 examples marketed last year. If we find her cousin in second place Renault Clio with 216,569 units, it is the third place that Denis Le Vot looks at more carefully. It occupies him Volkswagen Golfat 210,484 units sold, a sensational confirmation of how an absolute classic of the C segment with a two-volume bodywork still represents a cornerstone of the European market, as well as the largest car in the best position in the ranking, and with a traditional engine. With SUVs further behind, Dacia will therefore only be able to intercept a huge segment of customers with a “Super Sandero“, which, however, according to rumors gathered, should be closer in formula not to the classic Golf but rather to the more recent Renault Symbioz, therefore a C-segment formula with a raised roof with a length of approximately 430 cm, therefore well below the 455 cm of the current Dacia Jogger . The “Super Sandero” will once again use the Cmf-B modular platform, the same on which all the other cars in the Dacia range are based except the small Spring, which is the only electric one in the family.

Hybrid and electric, phase two

Currently, the ultra-urban Dacia Spring cannot be considered a success, with European sales falling by 63% in 2024 due to the end of incentives and above all the imposition of community duties on cars manufactured in China, just as in the case of the small Dacia. The CEO of the brand Denis Le Vot, however, is already looking at others, anticipating that it will be the turn next generation Sandero “host a electric variantby the end of 2027. Dacia will add more and more zero-emission models, thus opening up the use of AmpR Small platform which currently forms the basis for the Renault 4 e Renault 5. New Twingo which will adopt a simplified version in theory ideal for keeping in line with the current Dacia price lists. Where, moreover, it will arrive by the end of 2025 a further electrified innovation. As is known, the brand has introduced the new engine on the Bigster E-Tech full hybrid 1.8 with 155 HP of powerso far front-wheel drive only. It will be completed within the year an all-wheel drive variant with the addition of a second electric motor at the rear axle.
