The 25-year-old Daan died on Sunday at club matches of MCC Biest-Houtakker. Although he was not a member of the club, the grief and defeat are great among the members and the board.
The accident happened during the annual open club competitions of MCC Biest-Houtakker on the circuit on the Reyweg. The competitions were visited by many people, partly due to the sunny spring weather.
Painfully vulnerable
With great defeat, the club looks back on the competitions. “Daan fell unhappy. Despite the fast and professional help of all the emergency services and volunteers present, it was to no avail,” writes the club on Facebook.
Daan was not a member of MCC Biest-Houtakker, but drove regularly. “This is often the case within the cross world,” the club writes. “The passion for the sport connects us all. His death touches us deeply and makes it painfully clear how vulnerable our beloved sport can sometimes be.”
The club’s board wishes the family, friends and everyone who Liefhad loves strength and support in this ‘intensely difficult time’.
