The CDA will participate in the formation of a new coalition in the municipality of Meppel. The formation process is led by Sterk Meppel and VVD.
Sterk Meppel and VVD together have thirteen seats and that is enough for a majority. The Meppel municipal council has 25 council members.
But the two parties previously indicated that they would like a third coalition party. The parties want to form a ‘stable coalition’. This now appears to be the CDA, which has three seats.
These three parties will sit down at the table in the near future to reach a coalition agreement. This is done under the leadership of formators René de Heer and Jochem Hoogenboom.
All this means that D66 is left out. The current coalition consists of Sterk Meppel, VVD and D66. Between 2018 and 2022, the coalition also consisted of Sterk Meppel, VVD and CDA.
There have been few changes in the Meppel municipal council after the March municipal elections. The VVD won two seats and now has six council members, all other parties retained their number of seats.
The Meppel municipal council has been expanded by two seats due to a growth in residents. Sterk Meppel remained the largest party with seven seats.
