A man was tortured and murdered in an apartment in the Westrand in Roosendaal on King’s Day last year. His ex-girlfriend and her new love did that, the court says. The couple received eight years in prison and TBS.
Cyriel Oudenes led a life full of alcohol and drugs. Together with Deborah S. he had two children. But their relationship hit the rocks.
Deborah then found a new love: Junior van O. They continued to live together with Cyriel, in an apartment on Burgemeester Freijterslaan in Roosendaal, in the Westrand. And they used drugs.
Heels
Junior and Deborah came to deliver groceries on April 27, 2022 – King’s Day – Van O. said during her trial a month ago. He was allegedly beaten by Cyriel at the front door. That turned into a violent brawl.
Junior van O. then held Oudenes in a stranglehold on the ground, ‘so that he would calm down’. Meanwhile, Deborah S. hacked at the victim with various types of tools. A wrench and hand saw, among other things, are said to have been used. The suspects’ DNA was discovered in several places in the home.
Blood
A day later, an employee of the housing association found the victim in his apartment, tied up, in a pool of blood and next to bloody tools.
In total he appeared to have 377 injuries. He probably lived for hours before he died. He probably died from strangulation or blood inhalation. The court ruled out an overdose. Oudenes was 34 years old.
The two suspects were arrested a few days later, on April 30. There were still traces of the victim’s blood on S.’s socks.
‘Sample’
“Outright torture,” the prosecutor said during the trial. According to her, Oudenes’ death was less unintentional than Van O. makes it seem. She believes that he also carried out torture and that this is a case of manslaughter.
S. stated that she cannot remember anything anymore. She and Van O. used a lot of drugs at the time. She called her late ex a “monster.” He was said to have been aggressive and assaulted her. Other witnesses also stated this. Still, she misses him every day, she said.
Horrible
The man and woman are both responsible for the “gruesome” death, the court concluded on Thursday. There would have been no preconceived plan, even though Van O. had told friends that he wanted to kill Oudenes.
Van O. and S., who largely lived with the victim, had a “particularly unhealthy dynamic” with him, the court in Breda stated.
Deborah is now 41 years old, her boyfriend Junior is 28.
