In December, Cyprien Sarrazin had a serious accident, in which he barely escaped death. The positive: his brain had not registered anything.
The French ski racer Cyprien Sarrazin cannot remember his severe drop in training and the subsequent brain surgery – and sees that as an advantage. “I was awareness in these five days, but my brain did not register it. And that’s a good thing, because I have no post-traumatic stress disorder,” said the two-time streak winner on Monday in Marseille during his first public appearance since his accident in Bormio (Italy).
At that time, the five -time World Cup winner in the final training session for the departure had fallen heavily and had suffered a brain hemorrhage, which resulted in an enforcing operation. The Frenchman was only able to leave the intensive care unit after a week, but has been on the way of improvement since then.
“I almost died,” said Sarrazin. Despite the severity of the injuries, he is now making quick progress. “I am a bit surprised that I recovered so well and so quickly,” he said. He also left the anger about the fall. “I became aware that I was not far away from not being there anymore, so no matter what happens, only positive,” he said.
Sarrazin is currently in a rehabilitation center in GAP French, where he works on his recovery. The 30-year-old can now move normally, but still see twice. However, his eyesight would “improve from day to day,” said Sarrazin.
It remains to be seen whether and when the ski racer will return to the World Cup. “It is still too early to talk about competitions,” he emphasized. First of all, the focus is on complete recovery.
