Cyclists enjoy blooming tulip fields in the Zijpe polder: ‘The Netherlands at its best’

Hundreds of participants fully enjoyed today during the Blooming Zijpe Bicycle Day. The forty kilometer long route leads to what is known as the largest contiguous flower bulb area in the world, located in the Zijpe polder. With a lovely sun and a mild spring breeze, the fields of the currently blooming tulips, hyacinths and daffodils came into their own.

Enjoyment blown for the hundreds of participants in the Blooming Zijpe cycling day – NH News

Only on this one day of the year do cyclists get the opportunity to cycle through the fields, something that the bulb growers normally do not give permission for. “It’s different,” said one participant. “Normally you don’t come there out of respect for cultivation. And now you can cycle through it. That gives a very nice feeling.”

“I enjoy the wide, nice looking around me”

The mood of the participants can easily be grouped under one denominator: everyone enjoys it. “I enjoy the vastness,” said an elderly lady. “Nice and quiet, nice to look around me.” For yet another, it is mainly the color splendor that does it. “All shades with the beautiful blue sky added. The green and all those beautiful colors. I just said to my wife: this is the Netherlands at its best.”
