Kevin Bonaldo fought for his life for over a month. Now the cyclist has died at the age of 25.
Italian cyclist Kevin Bonaldo has died aged 25, a month after collapsing during a race. Bonaldo’s team SC Padovani Polo Cherry Bank said he had been fighting for his life in a hospital in the northern Italian city of Vicenza since the incident in September. However, he died on Friday morning.
Bonaldo collapsed on September 21st after crossing the finish line in the Piccola Sanremo race in Sovizzo. He was taken to the intensive care unit and placed in an induced coma. At times there was hope that his condition would improve, his team said. In the last few hours, however, his condition has continued to worsen.
Bonaldo’s team was deeply shocked by his death and expressed their condolences to his family and loved ones. Bonaldo’s brother Antonio thanked everyone who stood by him during his hospital stay on behalf of the family: “Kevin felt all these encouragements and fought every day until the end.”
