Cycling, Vuelta: Dainese mocks Ganna… Italian double in Iscar

The sprinter precedes Pippo in the sprint, in ninth second place of the season. Fourth Cimolai. Nothing changes in the standings with Kuss leading with a 17″ lead over Vingegaard and 1’08” over Roglic

After two stage successes at the Giro d’Italia in 2022 and 2023, Alberto Dainese takes a stage victory at the Vuelta di Spagna. The 25-year-old DSM sprinter celebrates the sixth ring in his career. In the 19th stage, La Bañeza-Íscar of 177.1 km, Dainese overtook Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) in the last meters who launched the sprint -300 meters from the finish. The Dutch Van der Berg completes the podium (3rd) while in the top four there is room for another Italian: Davide Cimolai (Cofidis). Dainese’s success breaks a 2-year fast at the Vuelta per l’Italia. The last success before today in 2021, on August 22, with Damiano Caruso who won the 188 km Puerto Lumbreras-Alto de Velefique. “In the first sprints of this Vuelta we had made some mistakes – says Dainese – while today I interpreted the sprint perfectly, coming out in the last metres. I wanted to end the season in the best way. Now we’ll see if there will be the opportunity on Sunday too”. Bad fall before the finish which involved several runners engaged in the “trains” for the sprinters. Among these also Groves.

FIGHT FOR THE RANKING

Nothing changes in the standings with Sepp Kuss remaining in the red jersey with a 17″ lead over the Danish Jonas Vingegaard and 1’08” over the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, both his teammates and winners of the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia respectively. Tomorrow the twentieth stage: Manzanares El Real-Guadarrama of 207.8 km. An eventful stage, the last stage is treacherous for those who still have some ambitions for the ranking.
