Cycling, Volta Valenciana: Rui Costa hit, stage and race. Ciccone finishes second

The Portuguese triumphs in the last stage ahead of the Dutch Arensman and overtakes the blue in the general. Besseges: time trial to Pedersen, classification to Powless

Rui Costa conquers the stage, Giulio Ciccone loses the leader jersey of the Volta Valenciana. In the 93.2 km from Paterna to Valencia, a double success for the Portuguese who conquers the stage and the race. A fraction that experienced the attack of the Italians Samuele Battistella (Astana Qazaqstan), Alessandro De Marchi (Jayco AlUla) and Davide Gabburo (Green Project Bardiani CSF Faizané). Once recovered from the group, the fight between the men of classification began with the attack of Vlasov followed by the leader of the race Ciccone, Geogehgan Hart, Arensman, Soler, Bilbao, Rui Costa and Battistella. In the final 2 km the attack by the Portuguese changed the fate of the race: with the 21″ plus 10″ time bonus given to Ciccone (5th at the finish) Rui Costa also conquered the general classification with 16″ over Ciccone and 23” on the Spanish Bilbao. In the final fraction good 3rd place for Samuele Battistella.

Besseges

In the 5th and final stage of the Etoile de Besseges – Alès-Alès 10.66 km time trial – success for the Danish Mads Pedersen (Trek Segafredo) ahead of the two British Ineos Joshua Tarling and Ben Tulett. Andrea Piccolo first of the Italians at 1’07”. Final ranking goes to the American Neilson Powless (Ef Education-EasyPost) with a 1” lead over the Danish Mattias Skjelmose (Trek Segafredo) and 12” over the French Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies).
