Cycling: Sergio Higuita wins Tour of Catalonia – Cycling

Higuita completed the triumph on the seventh and final stage over 138.6km, starting and finishing in Barcelona. The day’s win in the leading group sprint went to Italy’s Andrea Bagioli (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl).

Sixth success of the season for the Bora-hansgrohe team

On the demanding stage, Montjuic, the steep hill on which the 1992 Olympic Stadium stands, had to be scaled six times. Higuita is the fifth Colombian overall winner of the Tour of Catalonia. It was the sixth win of the season for the German Bora-hansgrohe team, which had been badly decimated by illnesses and injuries in recent weeks. Higuita joined Bora from Team EF Education earlier this year.

Sonny Colbrelli back in Italy

Meanwhile, the European champion Sonny Colbrelli, who collapsed at the beginning of the tour, has returned to his Italian homeland. Since the 31-year-old is now in stable condition, he was allowed to leave the hospital in Girona on Saturday, his racing team Bahrain Victorious announced on Sunday. Colbrelli is scheduled to undergo further tests in Italy to determine the cause of his cardiac arrhythmias.
