Cycling: Rick Zabel extends contract with Israel-Premier Tech

Status: 09/26/2022 5:28 p.m

Rick Zabel stays with cycling team Israel-Premier Tech for two more years. The 28-year-old extended his contract until the end of 2024, the team announced.

“Everyone knows it’s been a difficult year for us, but we’re very motivated to come back stronger. I want to play a key role in our sprint train,” said Zabel.

The team still competes in the WorldTour, the premier league of cycling. However, the team is only in 20th place in the three-year ranking of the world association UCI in terms of points. Only the best 18 teams are considered when the license is awarded for the next three years, which takes place in November. This means that Israel-Premier Tech would have to start as a ProContinental team in the future and would no longer be automatically invited to the most important races.
