Cycling dominator Tadej Pogacar is looking forward to double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel’s first participation in the Tour of Flanders.
“From my point of view, it’s good to have a driver like Remco who is always in attack mode,” said the world champion, who has already won the second monument of the season twice and is also the top favorite this year.
Evenepoel could “drive a really great race on Sunday,” said the Slovenian from Team UAE Emirates-XRG: “He’s in good form and definitely a driver to watch out for – because of his attacks from a distance, you just can’t take your eyes off him.” The last races have shown: “He always goes for victory, no matter what happens.”
Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe) announced his debut at the “Ronde van Vlaanderen” on Wednesday. The Belgian is one of the best classic racers in the world; he is inevitably one of the favorites in the traditional race over around 278 kilometers with six cobblestone sectors and 16 poisonous climbs.
“With Remco you never know where he can move, he can attack in the most unexpected places, so you have to be careful,” added Pogacar, who triumphed last year: “You can never let him get to the front with a few seconds lead, because it’s almost impossible to catch up with him again because he’s so fast.”
