Max Walscheid will miss this year’s France tour. The 32-year-old does not become fit in time after his elbow injury. SWR Sport spoke to him.
Max Walscheid has been able to meet the dream of a tour-de-france participation three times. After two years without a tour, a start of 2025 was planned. But now it is clear: The sprint specialist from the Australian World Tour team Jayco Alula Will not be fit in time for the tour of the tour on July 5th.
Consistent fall in Belgium
In the DWARS Door Het Hageland race in Belgium, Walscheid fell after a collision in mid -June and contracted an elbow fracture. “My first thought was of course 100 percent the Tour de France,” said Walscheid on Monday (June 23, 2025) in an interview with SWR Sport. The subsequent operation “went well and the first days of relaxation also worked well”.
Injury too serious
Walscheid is currently being looked after at Heidelberg’s Olympic base and is completing a rehab. However: “We discussed the team internally and unfortunately it makes no sense. The injury is too serious, the recovery time is too long. I will not start,” announced the native new again with a view of the three-week tour of France.
Also not a start to the Germans Championships
Accordingly, Walscheid will also be missing at the German Championships, where the men’s street races will be held next Sunday (29.06.2025). “In the past few years I have actually not missed it to show myself at the start,” said Walscheid. Walscheid wants to sit on the bike again by the end of August: “The first important racing operation for me will be the Renewi Tour in the World Tour,” said Walscheid. The four-day tour leads through the Benelux countries and starts on August 20.
