Almost half of the Dutch are not worried about digital safety privately. At the same time, in the past 12 months, almost 3/4 of the Dutch had to do with attempts to cyber crime such as phishing And increasingly telephone help desk fraud. 1 in 5 small SMEs still does not take any measure. This is apparent from Alert Online 2025the annual investigation into cyber consciousness commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Devices for daily use at home and at the office, industrial machines and processes, paying, shopping, doing business and keeping contact: almost everything is nowadays partly or completely digitally connected. Digital safety is essential. This requires a lasting active attitude at Dutch companies, consumers and the government. Betting on this is not a choice, but a must.

The number of smaller SMEs (Digital Trust Center (DTC), part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, helps smaller SMEs to improve their digital resilience through the subsidy ‘My cyber weather matter’. At the moment it is open again, applications can be submitted up to and including 31 October 2025.

Use of generative AI at work

For the first time it was investigated how Dutch people use generative artificial intelligence (AI) at work. This type of AI can automatically create new content such as text, images and videos by learning from existing data. 1 in 3 employees (36%) says they are excellent or very well known with generative AI, such as chatgpt or images of text-generating AI models. 1/4 of the employees (26%) believe that their organization has clear guidelines for the use of generative AI to control potential risks (for example in the field of data safety). 1/4 (23%) does not agree with this.
