Cyber attack on housing corporation Zayaz, tenant data may have been leaked

Housing association Zayaz has been the victim of a cyber attack. The attack on the computer systems of the Bossche housing corporation took place last Sunday. It is not yet clear what the consequences of the attack are, but the systems are still down. The personal data of the people from the 13,500 homes they rent out may have been leaked.

“We don’t know exactly what’s going on yet. We are currently investigating that,” says Lianne van Klaveren of Zayaz.

The cyber attack came to light when the corporation noticed that they were not easily reachable for customers. “Then we started calling each other and gradually found out that there was more going on.”

Everything has been shut down
It is not yet clear exactly how the attack happened. “We were attacked on one of our systems. We do not know exactly which one, but everything has been shut down due to the attack. Because it can also involve privacy-sensitive information, we have reported it to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.”

The spokesperson could not say how long it will take before the corporation can be reached normally again.
